About the Artist

Suzy was born in Memphis and moved to California when she was two. She grew up in the small artist town of Laguna Beach. Her mother was a watercolorist and sculpture and her father started the Art School in Laguna and was a board member for the Festival of Arts for over fifty years. Suzy took art lessons at an early age from her parent’s friends Rex Brandt and George Post, early California watercolorists. As a child she spent most of her free time in nature, at the beach or making tree houses. She was educated at the University of Texas in Anthropology, San Francisco State University in World Literature, the San Francisco Art Institute in Painting and Lone Mountain College in Psychology. She also studied privately for six years at the Gale Lawrence Studio in decorative painting and with Karen Frye in Watercolor.

Suzy is a mother, has been a musician/song writer, farmer, psychotherapists, carpenter, decorative painter, muralist, and now a fine arts painter. She has lived in Europe and Mexico and has traveled widely throughout the South Pacific.

Suzy resided in Makawao, Maui for seven years and established herself as a well loved portrait artist. She has recently moved to the Big Island near Hilo. Suzy has received many honors: best in show for the East Bay Watercolor Society and The Great Makawao Paint Out. She has had many one man shows and has been a part of many juried shows like the prestigious Art Maui and the Hui No’eau Annual.

Suzy has a great love for the Hawaiian and Polynesian culture and spends much of her time going to gatherings like the Merry Monarch Hula Festival, the Taro Festival, Tahiti Fete and the International Canoe Carving Festival. She sees such beauty in the people and wants to record this great renaissance of the Hawaiian culture. Her collectors are many, from local Hawaiians to all lovers of the Polynesian culture. Ninoa Thompson, Navigator of the Hokule’a is an owner of one of her works. It is her great desire that one learns about and honors this beautiful culture that she lives in and feels she is very lucky to be a part of.
